U.S. Accuses Seven Chinese Individuals of State Sponsored Hacking The U.S. Justice Department said it charged seven Chinese nationals with hacking businesses, politicians, journalists and academics over 14 years. The move is likely to further inflame tensions between the U.S. and China as cyberspace becomes the latest front in their areas of confrontation. The Justice Department said the hacks were sponsored by the Chinese government and comprised more than 10,000 “malicious emails” that impacted thousands of victims across multiple continents. The emails appeared as legitimate news articles but contained hidden tracking links that transmitted data that helped the hackers further compromise home routers and other devices.
